"The Moment of Peace" Begins - Get Involved!

Dean Crabb SG

Today it begins. My goal: 1 million people participating in 66 days. "The Moment of Peace" is a very simple idea; that we as individuals can make a difference if we stop for a while, be quiet and be still and enjoy the experience of living. This is our chance to start making a difference. Help spread the word and get involved!

to stop for one hour on 18th june and be quiet and mindful, this is an ideal.

Not many people have that luxury to be left alone for one hour, esp if you have kids.

And when you start to be quiet for 15 mins, you will start recalling many things, memories that you forget, stuff that you want to forget by keeping yourself busy.

So one whole hour is really a great test.

Thanks for your support everybody. I really appreciate it. I'll also check out the other forums. If you have logins already, can you help by posting to these forums on my behalf and spreading the word? That would be great!

Wiser, I agree, I have a young child too. It certainly challenges us. ;-)

Please help spread the word and I look forward to meeting you all in the universal silence at 8pm on th 18th June 2011. ;-)

Mindfulness Bell :)

Would be useful since the studies show that many people spend most of their time online.

When you at home and have nothing important to do. You may turn on this webpage to set the bell to ring every 30 minutes or an hour. When the bell ring, stop whatever that you are doing and come back to your breathing. " Breathe in, you are awared of any tension in your body. Breathe out, you release all your tension in the body. Do it for three times. " or you can just simply breathe in and out for three times.

I will be participating too. The fastest way of spreading this message is through sms. Please create sms in both Chinese and English and I shall help you to spread. If you think this idea is good. I shall pm you my hp.

Another way is Buddhists or non Buddhists may help to spread this message by sending emails to your friends.

You may also send your message to DharmaNews. See the link below. I used to receive Dharma News via email after I subscribe. They have a pool of members who are mostly Buddhists and we share news via email.

Send DharmaNews: [email protected]
Subscribe DharmaNews: [email protected]

is there a badge i can use to add to my blog?

Wiser SG

Actually i have this moment of peace everyday. So guess i won't be joining.

Dean Crabb SG

Dawnsfirstlight - some great suggestions there thanks. I hadn't thought about SMS. Please feel free to create your own SMS message, I'm sure you'll come up with something creative. ;-) I can't speak Chinese so would have to rely on someone else to do this for me too.

I'll also email DharmaNews later today. Thanks again for that suggestion!

I've had a major win overnight of the Buddhist Channel willing to support this initiative so that will certainly help spread the word.

I'm also looking up today if it's possible this could be a Guinness World Record. I'm not sure if it can be measured accurately for them to legitimately see it as a record.

Geis, go to the "share" page on the website, there are badges there.

Thanks again everybody for your support.

O.K. with your permission, I shall create a SMS and start circulating to my friends.

Dean Crabb SG

Sure, please go ahead. I'm only one person and I can't do all of this myself. It is going to require some support from people around the world to take initiative and spread the word, so I really appreciate your support in this way.

Thanks so much!

The intention behind this is an important one. To sincerely serve humanity or to obtain a new record as a recognition? The intention as I mentioned, is very important one to consider.

Dean Crabb SG

@Urdaytb - thanks for your comments. I understand your point and it is quite a valid view that I'd never considered. To be honest, the intention is just to serve humanity. The idea of a Guinness World Record was really a means of publicity to attract more attention, for the means of spreading the word further, to serve humanity. So ultimately it comes back to the same intention.

Regardless, I don't think the Guinness World Record thing will work anyway. It's way to hard to track accurately and I've been contemplating it more for the last week and in some ways it constrains the potential for this idea to just spread widely and uncontrolled.

I'd rather it just spread worldwide and be something of just huge benefit and recognised on it's own merit rather than something that is recognised as a record. Which I think comes back to your point.

Anyway, I hope you join in help me achieve something wonderful for the world.

In kindness,

Dean 'Jagaro' Crabb

A very nice quote. If you register on the website for the event and include this quote, I'll make sure it gets added to the ticker of quotes on the top of the page. Very Nice!
